The Sites

I visited all the site options as of Friday, I went around with the idea of “Capture -> Contain -> Release” using light as explored in the Installation project. Below are images from each site and my thoughts on them.

Site 7 – Lindsey Street/Hayne Street

Its exciting to have the train track so close, however the site didn’t inspire me and I couldn’t see my ideas working and I didn’t have a clear idea in my head on where the site started and ended.

Site 8 – West Pouletry Avenue (Old Public Toilet)

Right opposite a Market and situated in the middle of intersecting roads, it seems out of place. Closed due to ‘Homosexual’ activity. I didn’t feel it was in a great spot as i had a more enclosed area. The graffiti was interesting on a wall opposite which is an area used as a Taxi break point, from what I could make out its says “Driver in ______ Do you want to cheat?” I guess to cheat would mean being a dodgy Taxi….

Site 6 – Farrington Lane/Farrington Road (Walled area opening over tube lines)

I felt a site so connected with the tube lines below would not be able to neglect them and as I didn’t want to deal with them and issues such as sound insulation I felt nothing for this site. However the moving train headlights did catch my eye.

Site 4 – Baynes Street (Used Car Dealer with Billboard over looking Regants Canal)

I really enjoyed this site as soon as I saw it and could see my ideas working here. With it I could expand things linking into the Canal.

Site 1 – Vale of Health (Next to Spencer House)

It was very pretty with snow but I wasn’t after pretty and I wasn’t after a ‘green’ area so before I even came here I knew I wasn’t interested. However I may look at the site in the future as a contrast to a more built up area. Notable thing include the Travellers close by and lake that it a natural spring and the start of the river Fleet.

Site 2 – South End Green Traffic Island (Public Toilets and Bus Driver Shelter)

Again I feel this site is too much out in the open although this site interests me as i enjoy the idea of expanding with both a Bus driver shelter and Bus shelter as one doesn’t exist. However this is a little too obvious somehow.

Site 3 – Highgate West Hill (5 Lock up Garages and Car wash at back)

Not much to say didn’t feel much, a nice area but again at little to far out of the ‘city’

Site 5 – Eyre Hill Street/Warner Street (Near Mountpleasant post sorting)

I liked having the Royal Mail post sorting nearby however the site was too plane and there wasn’t enough to work with. As it was late when I got to this site the street lights came out well in my photographs.

Phew, that was long.
